Canwest News Service is reporting Honda Canada will recall thousands of vehicles after owner complaints involving brake pedals. The recall will affect 24,680 Odyssey and 4,137 Element vehicles in Canada covering the 2007-2008 model years. The company plans to modify the vehicle stability assist modulator, which is connected to the ABS braking system.
Officials witht the company said people reported brakes felt "soft" and had a pedal height that gots closer to the floor before the vehicle stoped.
Vehicle owners said that their brakes felt funny over time said Richard Jacobs of Honda Canada Inc. "There have been a few accidents and several minor injuries (in the U.S.) But it's mostly been just from consumer concern over the feel of the pedal, it seems to be a little more spongy."
Honda said some modulators could allow small quantities of air in, which over time, could accumulate and result in the "soft brake pedal" or "low brake pedal" being reported by customers.
The fix will remove air from the units and seal it so as to prevent it from coming in, something Jacobs described as "a very quick in-and-out procedure."
